Pie Chart for labels

Andre Menezes August 29, 2024

Hi Atlassian Community,

I'm looking to create a pie chart in my Jira dashboard that visualizes the breakdown of tickets based on specific labels only. The issue I'm facing is that many of my tickets have additional labels that I do not want to appear in the pie chart.

I have tried to use the Pie Chart gadget, but it includes all labels present in the tickets, not just the ones I specified. Creating custom fields is not an option for me.

Would you know how I could achieve this?

I'm also trying using the rich filters gadgets, but I was not able to make it happen. I tried to use smart filters, but it has a limitation of 10 per gadget. Any ideas?

You might also try one of the (many) reporting/charting apps on the marketplace. The "eazyBI"  app is pretty rich.

This is related to https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-71790 for a different gadget. I think one problem is how would the UI in a gadget config show every label that could exist for that set of issues, and then let you select the ones you want?

I think I would extract the set of issues from Jira and process the data outside to generate a pie chart. Not as convenient, but it would work

Hi @Andre Menezes,

Thank you for reaching out, and a big thanks to Jim for suggesting eazyBI!

eazyBI is definitely the right tool for creating pie charts based on labels. Depending on your use case, you can create a simple pie chart split by labels or customize it further.

With eazyBI, you can:

  • Filter by specific labels
  • Use different measures (e.g., issues resolved, story points, hours spent) to be split by label
  • Apply additional dimensions like Project or Issue type

Feel free to explore the eazyBI public Jira demo account [here] and check out the documentation [here].

You can even get hands-on experience in the Jira demo account by creating a new report. It's a great way to try out eazyBI's features and see what's possible (please note that reports created in the demo account cannot be saved).

Here are the steps to create a pie chart displaying created issues by labels:

  1. Drag and drop the "Label" dimension to the Rows section.
  2. Select to display individual "Label" level instead of expandable "All Labels" in Rows.
  3. Add the "Label" dimension to the Pages section for filtering.
  4. Switch the "Label" filter to multiple values mode, select the needed labels and confirm with "OK".
  5. Switch the table view to "Pie".
  6. Set up the Legend and Data Labels as needed.

Since 'Labels' is a multi-select field, there are some nuances to consider depending on your requirements. If you decide to try out eazyBI, you can always contact the eazyBI support team for help with your use cases.

We hope you find eazyBI helpful!

Best regards,

Ilze

Hi @Andre Menezes,

To create a pie chart that visualizes specific labels only, you might consider using our app Quick Filters for Jira Dashboards. This app allows you to add dynamic filters to your Jira dashboard gadgets, which can help you focus on specific labels without needing to modify the underlying data or create custom fields.

With our Quick Pie Chart gadget, you can define the fields to display in custom JQL values and exclude issues that don't match any of the defined JQLs.
