Personal settings: "Watch your issues", what does it do?

Below mentioned option I see "If you select enabled, you will automatically 'watch' the issues you interact with.". When I change assignee of particular task (from me to other) should I expect that I should be added into watchers (I assume this is kind of interaction with this issue)? I'm asking because nothing happens right now, nor I'm added into watcher nor I get any notifications after re-assigning.

Thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community!

When we select to watch our own issues, it means that when we add a comment we will automatically be added as a watcher to receive future updates.

Transitioning or adding/changing the assignee will not trigger the auto-watch, it will be necessary to update the issue with a comment.
