Using Chrome (not sure if FF makes a difference), screenshots (captured with SHIFT+CMD+4 > Clipboard on OSX, and then pasted with CMD-V), are rendered small for a reason I ignore. This is forcing all ticket readers to click on the attached picture to blow it up.
It does not use to be this way and I wonder what has happened.
See the screenshot below:
Hello G,
Thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community!
I tested on my local site following the same steps and using Chrome and Firefox, but it works normally.
As per the screenshot, you took a screenshot of a table, is that correct?
If that's the case, if you take a screenshot of the entire screen, does it work?
Can you test taking a screenshot of any other thing?
Is it happening with all users?
Regards,
Angélica
I think I have it figured out. When you create a new ticket, and do a paste on a screenshot saved into the clipboard, the system created a placeholder for the image, but with the "thumbnail" format, would you know why that is?

Thank you for the details.
I was able to replicate the same issue. It happens because the editor when creating an issue uses Wiki Markup and the editor of the new issue view uses Markdown.
Currently, there is no way of changing that and we already created a feature suggesting to add the new issue view to the create issue screen:
Please, click on vote and watch to receive updates about the feature.
For now, the workaround is to add the image after the ticket is created.
