Parent Link is required - can I default its value?

Hi there,

We set up a hierarchy for advanced roadmaps in Jira cloud. In our scheme configuration, the "parent link" is mandatory for all epics to ensure the hierarchy is followed. This has made creating epics somewhat cumbersome for some users, as they can't add them directly from the roadmap view in their software projects but must add them using the "Create" screen. Is there any way I can default the "parent link" field for all epics on a certain project so that it is automatically filled in upon issue creation?

If you remove the setting that the field is required, you could fill the field after the issue is created using Automation Rules.

As long as the field is set to Required, creation of the issue can't be completed without entering a value. If you want to prefill that field on the Create Issue screen you will have to look at a third party app as Jira doesn't allow creation of a Context with a Default Value for the Parent Link field. Behaviours from Adaptavist is a third party app that can prefill fields on the Create Issue screen, though I'm not sure if it can be applied to the Parent Link field.

Thank you! That makes sense. Will remove the requirement and then use automation to fill in the field after creation.
