Not syncing correctly with GitHub

Currently, I have GitHub synced with JIRA so that branches/PRs referencing the JIRA issue key will appear in the development section of a JIRA issue. I noticed that if I remove the issue key from the PR, it still shows up in the JIRA issue (even after many hours). The issue key is not referenced anywhere else (neither branch name nor commits with the issue key). This seems to only happen with the first reference. For example, if I have a second PR, add the same key and then later remove it, it will be removed the JIRA issue. Any ideas on how to get that first reference to delete in the JIRA issue?
