Not show default paragraph field text in Jira Forms: 'We support markdown! etc.'

There doesn't appear to be a way to modify or hide the unnecessary and confusing default text in paragraph form fields. Non-technical users often think I want them to do something, and it clutters what should be a very clean and concise UI especially when multiple paragraph fields are present.

Full text is 'We support markdown! Try **bold**, 'inline code', or ''' for code blocks'.

All suggestions welcome. Cheers, Des

Hey @Des Kelly ,

There's this feature request that particularly talks about what you're looking for: JRACLOUD-97228: Allow removing suggestions for paragraph fields added to Forms

I'd recommend leaving a vote, setting yourself as a watcher and potentially commenting on it. 👈

As stated in the previous reply, what you could do is add specific instructions for your users within the description property of that field. Not ideal, I know, but it could point users in the right direction. 🤔

Cheers,
Tobi

Thanks, Tobi. I'm using the extra instructions function already. I've commented on and voted for the feature request :-)

Hi Des,

As far as I know, that "We support markdown! Try **bold**, `inline code`, or ``` for code blocks" text is a fixed placeholder from the underlying Atlassian rich-text editor itself, not a field-level default value you're setting — so it can't be edited or removed through the paragraph field's configuration.

I haven't found an admin toggle to disable it specifically on Forms. Two things that might help in practice:

1. It's only a placeholder — it disappears the moment someone starts typing, so it's not visible once the field has content.
2. You can add a short, clear Field description above the paragraph field explaining what you actually want them to enter. Since that text renders separately from the placeholder, it gives non-technical users something more relevant to read than the markdown hint.

Not a true fix, but it's a way to reduce the confusion until (if ever) Atlassian adds a way to override it.

Yep, doing that.
