I am new to JIRA and I've started with a Kanban board for planning work (we're not building software and Kanban seems to be the best planning tool for our workflow, were we have small discrete units of work but not many projects).

Rather than build project boards for each unit of work, I decided to use Epics.  The only place I can create them is in the Roadmap.  I can't even see them to manage them in Backlog.  Am I missing something or does this not work as described in the help doc?

Hello Brian,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

The Epic panel is a new feature that is being rolled out, so even though the documentation mentions this feature, not all sites received this update, but it's coming.

Next-gen: Epic panel in backlog

ROLLING OUT

You can now manage epics on the backlog of your next-gen project via the Epics panel, similar to how epic management works in classic Jira Software projects. Changes you make in the panel on the backlog will reflect on the Roadmap, and vice-versa.

For now, please use the Roadmap to create the Epics, and soon you will be able to create it through the backlog.

Regards,
Angélica
