Next Gen Jira introduces roadmap - can it be used with the 'initiative' issue type ?

We use initiatives to manage our top level priorities and manage refinement phases of features or tech enablers of a larger scale. Can you use roadmap for initiatives in NG projects?

I think JIRA nex-gen defined highest level "roadmap level" item as Epic by default. However name and icon of that item can be change to "Initiative" or "Theme" for that matter.

Ok, will support for custom issue types, amongst others, initiatives come later or not at all?
