Hi all,
I'm a complete novice so please be gentle with me. I recently switched Career to Data Analytics and i got a job as a data visualization role (Power Bi). The company is going through alot of changes right now so there's been no one to put me through or "train me" per say. I've also been given my first project which involves making a budget dashboard. I've been asked to use JIRA to complete the project and there is no working backlog or any assistance (i feel it might be a test) Please how do i set up workflows and get the project going in the proper way. Any detailed descriptions are welcome.
I'm a complete novice with Jira and fairly new to power bi also. I have less than a week to submit and i don't know where to start since no working backlog. Please help and see attached for what i'm supposed to visualize for contex
Hi @Mark Brown ,
Congrats on the new job. Looking at the screenshot. Not sure if Jira or power BI is the right tool. This can be just done in Excel and it probably faster to setup if its to be completed in less than a week.
Jira is not a budget tool. At least not on its own. If you want to run budget and financial data, you may want to look into add-on tools to go with Jira. For example:
https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1211259/budgets-by-tempo?tab=overview&hosting=datacenter
The questions is to start is where is the data? If the data is not in Jira, this will not make sense to do this in jira. If the numbers are in a database somewhere, then its better to figure out a solution to connector powerBI or a similar tool to it.
Hope this helps.
Hi @Benjamin thanks so much for your quick response. I'm creating the dashboard in POWER BI. Thats the tool my company uses and the tool i was asked to make this dashboard with.
I just needed help getting started with Jira since i have no experience i dont know how to use it to keep my manager updated/informed about my progress.
Or in this case scenario what would i do with JIRA

Thanks for sharing. It looks like there's nothing you need to do in Jira, other than completing your PowerBI task.
As long as your manager has access to Jira, they will see your progress by commenting updates on the ticket and transitioning the ticket to its appropriate status. Make sure they are set as a watcher to get notification of your ticket updates. Once you're completed, set your ticket to the end state which is usually resolve or close.
As soon as you make your manager and stakeholders the watchers on the ticket and add your first update in the comments, follow up with them if they see get your latest updates from Jira showing your comments. Once they do, then let the notifications do the magic and focus on building that PowerBi dashboard.

Thanks Benjamin. I truly appreciate the prompt responses. I'll focus on getting this dashboard done by the end of the week. You've been a great help to me
