Need a help for Automation Problem

Gökhan Arslantaş April 8, 2025

Dear All,

I have a problem generating an automation rule for my project. Can someone help me create a rule?
1. I use JIRA cloud premium

2. I have a Project at JIRA as "PTL" and "PMS".

3. PMS project contains the items and status, including OPEN - OK - NOK

4. When the PMS project item is NOK, then PTL creates a new item with some information, such as assignee and due date.

5. The PMS item and the PTL item will be linked to each other.

6. The problem is, I cannot change the PMS status to OK condition with automation when I change the PTL 's item status to DONE.

Hi @Gökhan Arslantaş -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

For a question like this, context is important for the community to help.  Please post the following:

  • what type of project is this: company-managed, team-managed, JPD, etc.
  • an image of your complete automation rule in a single image for continuity
  • images of any relevant actions / conditions / branches
  • an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution
  • explain what is not working as expected and why you believe that to be the case

Thanks!

Kind regards,
Bill

Mr. Bill,

Thank you for your interest and direction.

  • The project type is company-managed and generated with a blank template.
  • Please see the single image of the rule below.

  • I expect the related items to be done at the same time in the PMS and PTL project.  This is why if the PTL project is DONE, the PMS tracks item has to be OK (Done status) as well.

Thank you for your support in advance.

Best Regards

Gokhan

Thanks for that information, and...

For your PMS project, is there a "OK" status?

If so, for the workflow for the issue type of PMS-6810, is there a transition from its current status to the status "OK"?

If so, are there and conditions / validations on that transition which would prevent it from happening?  For example, requiring fields to have values before the transition can happen.

Mr. Bill,

Thanks for the query to find root cause.

The first topic, you are right the PMS project status start with OPEN and switch it to OK, NA or NOK status.

Secondlly, work flow had no condition/validation on any transition for the OK status.

But, for the NOK status, transition has a condition to create a new issue for the PTL project that İ create a new information such as assignee, due date etc.

Best regards

Gökhan

If there is required information for the transition, that must be supplied with the rule action attempting to perform the transition.

The PTL-4362 status is DONE now, and the PMS-6810 status needs to be OK automatically.
