Hi Atlassian team,
I’m referring to this previous request: [Team-managed Project] [Time Tracking] - Add functionality for users to start and stop a live timer to track/log the time worked on an issue
We are currently facing the same problem described in that issue.
In Jira Server/Data Center, we used a plugin that allowed users to start tracking time directly from the Jira page, without having to open the issue card or manually enter a worklog afterward. A small Start/timer icon was visible on the page, and users could simply click Start to begin counting time.
In Jira Cloud, we still need the same capability:
- Start / pause / stop a live timer for an issue
- Log the tracked time directly against the Jira issue
- Avoid manually entering worklog time after the work is done
- Preferably start the timer from the board/card view or from a visible page-level icon
Could you please confirm whether Jira Cloud now has any native solution, official workaround, beta feature, or recommended Marketplace app that solves this use case?
If there is no current solution, is this feature being considered again for Jira Cloud?
Thanks!
Hi Lucas,
No, there is no native timer functionality like that in Jira Cloud. And I am not aware of any plans for it. It would most likely be from a third party vendor. I suggest you contact one of them in the Atlassian Marketplace.
Hi @Lucas Reis
You are right that Jira Cloud doesn't include a native "Start/Stop" timer button by default. If you are open to using a third-party solution, we would like to recommend WorklogPRO - Timesheets for Jira. With WorklogPRO, you can:
✅ Start, pause, and stop live timers directly on Jira issues
WorklogPRO includes a built-in timer available from the issue view. Users can start, pause, and stop timers for individual issues, and even run multiple timers simultaneously. Each timer is private to the user who created it, ensuring there is no interference between team members.
✅ Log tracked time directly to Jira issues without manual entry
When a timer is stopped, the Log Work dialog opens automatically with the tracked duration already populated. This eliminates the need to manually calculate or enter time after work is completed.
✅ Log work from anywhere in Jira
WorklogPRO integrates with Jira's Command Palette (Cmd+K / Ctrl+K), allowing users to open the Log Work dialog from anywhere in Jira, including boards, dashboards, filters, and issue views. For even faster access, users can press G followed by W to open the dialog instantly.
✅ Configure the worklog panel placement
Administrators can customize the location of the WorklogPRO panel on the issue screen through Admin → General Settings, making it easy to place the panel where it best fits the team's workflow.
In addition to time tracking, WorklogPRO provides worklog attributes, account tracking, timesheet approvals, billing and cost calculations, and advanced reporting, making it a comprehensive time-tracking solution for Jira Cloud.

Hey @Lucas Reis! 👋
A Marketplace app is the way to go for this. JetTime (a third-party Jira app) handles exactly this — it has a dedicated Timers page where you pick an issue and start the timer in one click, and timers are also available right on each issue. Either way, start/pause/stop a live timer and it logs the tracked time directly to the worklog when you stop, so no manual entry afterward.

Hi @Lucas Reis
Can you please clarify what you mean by "the Jira page"?
If you're open to a Marketplace app, Timesheet Builder offers a start/stop timer that is available in the issue view.
You can start and stop a timer directly on an issue, and when you stop it, the tracked time is logged as a worklog on that issue automatically — no manual entry needed. Logged time feeds into the broader timesheet and reporting features in the app, so if your team also needs visibility into time spent across projects or people, that's covered as well.
Full disclosure: I'm with Seibert and we are partners with Actonic, the team behind the app.
You can try it free on the Marketplace listing if you want to test the timer workflow before committing.

Hi - You are correct that Jira Cloud doesn't have this natively. I do work with Tempo and it's worth mentioning another option alongside what's been suggested: Tempo Timesheets includes a built-in tracker (stopwatch) that lives right in the Jira issue's side panel.
You can start, pause, and stop it as you work — run multiple trackers simultaneously if you're context-switching — and when you're done, it pre-fills the Log Time form with your tracked duration so there's no manual math involved.
It also runs as a gadget on your Jira dashboard if you prefer tracking from there rather than from individual issues, and there's a Tempo mobile app and a Chrome extension if you need to log time outside of Jira.
More detail here.

Hi @Lucas Reis
If you're open to third-party apps, you can check the Time Assistant - Time Tracking and Workload Dashboard marketplace app.
The app allows you to start/stop the timer directly in the work item and log the time entry with the possibility to adjust it.
What's more, the app offers a dashboard which includes the most relevant and recent work items you are working on. You can display work items you opened, edited, commented, etc.
On the dashboard, you will also find all started timers and favourite tickets.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us or book a demo. Happy to learn more about your use cases!
Kind regards

Hi @Lucas Reis
Welcome to the Atlassian community!
John is right that Jira Cloud doesn't include a native "Start/Stop" button by default. However, if you want to avoid complex custom coding or third-party solutions, there's a new option: Rovo Studio. This platform enables anyone to create AI-powered automations and apps on the Atlassian platform using only natural language descriptions, with no coding required. Therefore, you could potentially build this feature yourself.
