MySQL error 1053 after editing my.* file

Miguel Santos September 24, 2019

Hello,

I'm currently trying to create a testing environment with Jira Software on a MySQL database.

The DB was installed with server configurations (meaning I only have the shell installed) and as a service.

After editing the my.conf file, I could not start the service again. I get "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".

Is there a way to resolve this issue? I have seen workarounds but I wanted a permanent solution for this. If possible, please share examples of an edited my.conf so I can be assured that my editing is not the issue.

*I am aware this is not a MySQL forum but I figured other users could have had the same problem.

Cheers!

There's not a lot of point asking this here, as as you say, this is not a MySQL forum

More importantly, even if you had asked in the right place, we can't help.  You have not told us what the full error message in the database logs is, or what in your edit has broken it.  You've edited your my.cnf and broken it.  Not a lot we can tell you beyond "undo your edits, then look up how to do correct ones".
