When I click "all work items" - I am not presented with the JQL bar where I can search for any work items (basic or advanced).
The only thing presented to me is a drop down named "Filters" and I am then presented with a small box to type JQL or If I click "Basic" I can remove the filter options for the sprint page I am on but not do a general search for anything...
Will this change?
How do I get to the "blank" search function in Jira where I can search anything?
The List option is not where you search in Jira.
This is the list off issues in the current space.
You need to select the option "Search work items" under the "Filters" option the main side bar
Thanks Marc. It does appear that there was an update with UI too. BUT knowing there is an alternative place to get to what I need is extremely helpful.

Hi @Gemma FRENCH
I'm Ash from Appfire's Expert Services. Other members seemed to have answered your query above, but in case it's of use, you might want to consider checking out JQL Search Extensions.
If you find yourself frequently needing more powerful search capabilities than what the native Jira interface offers, JQL Search Extensions for Jira can be a great help. The app provides a dedicated "Extended Search" page that includes an enhanced JQL editor with advanced autocomplete and syntax highlighting to make building complex queries much smoother. It adds over 50 additional keywords and functions that aren't available in standard Jira, allowing you to search for things like specific attachment types, comment content, or complex issue link relationships. You can even save these extended searches as filters to use in your Jira dashboards or boards, effectively giving you a much more flexible "all work items" view tailored exactly to your needs.
Best,
Ash

Thanks Ash, this is very useful to know and something I will be looking into as this sounds perfect for some of the asks my leads have been wanting. Appreciate the info.

Hey @Gemma FRENCH
Welcome to the Atlassian Community.
In Jira Cloud, the new All work items experience does not always show the classic JQL search bar by default. Atlassian has been gradually rolling out UI changes, so what you see can differ from older screenshots and Data Center versions.
You can try opening the advanced search directly by navigating to:
https://your-site.atlassian.net/issues/?jql=
If you still only see the Filters dropdown, it may be due to the new Cloud navigation experience currently enabled for your site.
Could you share a screenshot of the full page? That will help determine whether this is the new UI or a permission-related issue.
If this helps you, do accept and vote for my answer. Thanks.

You are providing DC information, the question is related to Cloud, as the post labels show

Thanks for pointing that out. I missed the Cloud label and was referring to the Data Center experience. I'll edit the response
Appreciate the correction! 😊
