Hello,
We are preparing to migrate from Jira Data Center to Jira Government Cloud and are looking for timeline estimates from others who have completed migrations of a similar size.
Environment details:
Jira Data Center Version 9.12.31 (Soon to be on 10.3.19)
1-node Jira Data Center deployment
~400 projects
~410,000 issues
~1,300 users
~700 custom fields
12 installed apps total; 4 apps will be migrated (Email This Issue, BigPicture, Jira Workflow Toolbox, EazyBI)
Identity and access:
SCIM provisioning will be used
SSO is already fully configured
Environments:
3 Jira environments (1 production, 2 non-production)
Both non-production environments contain non-production data
Additional context:
Only 4 apps will migrate; the remaining apps will not be brought to Cloud.
---> We are seeking general expectations on how long migrations of this scale have taken (for example: 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, etc.)
We would appreciate any examples, guidance, or ranges based on past migrations of a comparable size, including time needed for planning, test runs, validation, and final cutover.
Thank you
Hi @Lawrence
The timeline on how many months it'll take is tricky. You have:
1. Customer timeline (Jira DC licenses, app licenses, other business priorities that impact how soon you need to move to cloud)
2. downtime to test migration ( you only have one node, which limits when you can migrate and test)
Roughly, it can be 3 to 6 months. leave plenty of time for UAT1, UAT2, test, test and tes. I can't stress this enough. test!

For this, you are missing what it takes the most, the attachments. 1 TB can take 15-20 hours.
~400 projects
~410,000 issues
~1,300 users
~700 custom fields
The data could take 3-5 hours.
There is a lot of docs that will help you test the migration (there is a lot to fix before testing)

And now APPS!!
Understand and read how to migrate each app to cloud(some of them have an easy path using JCMA, others not su much)

1. Open a ticket with each vendor. They can guide you and will happily do so.
Good luck!
