Make a field required with a transaction status

Is there a way to make a field required for a specific transition status without having to buy another plug in?

Hi @Trena Norcia 

Yes, you can add it as a Validator within the workflow.  This way, if the field isn't filled in then an error message pops up.

Thanks Liam, I used that in a prior position.  It is not set up here and I need to set it up here.  I believe if I am correct it is an out of the box validator.  Can you help me set it up or provide actual steps. I am seeking to add a validator to the workflow for  when an issue transitions from Needs Definition ( which is our To Do) to In Development.

It appears it is an additional coast to have this ability?


My apologies for not being more Jira fluent, Jira is a great product and I am usually able to get it to do everything we need.  This has stumped me.  Thank you for your help.

@Liam Green Can you let me know if there is a way to do this without additional charges?  WE really need to see if there is a way to make this work without additional charges, as of right now it is requiring entry into the field to create the ticket.  We want the custom field to be required at the first transition step in the ticket.

It isn't something you need to set up, it's just part of workflows.  Did you follow the guide I gave the link for?  If so, which bit are you stuck on?
