Mail notifications for stories

I would like to receive mail notifications for stories assigned to me or stories in which my name is linked.

Where can I set this up?

Jira can send email notifications to users when significant events occur (e.g. creation of an issue; completion of an issue) etc.

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

Jira Administrators manage the configuration of notifications - for what events Jira will send messages and to whom those message will be sent.

As an end user you cannot set those configurations.

You will need to consult with your Project Administrator, who has access to view but not modify the Notification Scheme, to find out what that configuration is.

Beyond the Notification Scheme used by projects, a user has control has some control over whether they receive emails for those notifications. That is managed in your Personal Settings, and you can learn more about that here:
