Looking for a better way to add time

Karol Peake

I want an easier way to add time on a ticket.  Having to click the three dots, then choose Log work, then fill in minutes/hours, then submit is very tedious.

Is there any native dashboard add-on or marketplace tool that would add a sidebar panel of buttons to quickly add +1m, +5m, +15M, +1h, with a double/triple click to get multiple minutes/hours?

If not, then it should be a Jira update! :-)

Hi @Karol Peake 👋🏻

First of all, welcome to the community. ✨

To answer your question, there are several Atlassian Marketplace tools that provide much faster, "one-click" time logging directly in the sidebar or issue view. Few named tools:

  • Simple Worklog Timer for Jira (Best for "One-Click" +15m/1h)
  • Time Assistant - Time Tracking (Best for Dashboard/Command Center)
  • Clockify - Time Tracking & Timesheet
  • WorklogPro - Best for Fast Grid-Based Logging

Like @Nick _CodeCove_ had mentioned and provided you an example of the tool he uses.

Hope this answers your question. 🙂

Thanks,
Anwesha

Hi @Karol Peake,

Thanks for sharing your feedback about Tempo Timesheets. I'm part of the Tempo team and we’re glad to hear it’s already saving you some time.

On your two asks: fixed one-click buttons for increments like +1m, +5m, +15m, +1h aren’t available today, and we also don’t currently anchor the start time to status transitions. We’ve noted both requests on our side.

For logging time from the Jira work item view, there are a couple of quicker options than going through … → Log work:

For the short customer-service interactions you mentioned (the 15 minute bits of work), Tempo can also use Jira activity to generate time suggestions. That means work on Jira tickets can be surfaced as suggestions in Timesheets' My Work View, instead of having to reconstruct that time manually.

Tempo can also pull suggestions from other sources such as Google Calendar, Microsoft 365, and supported IDEs, which may be useful for other types of work.

Thanks again for the specific feedback around the quick-add buttons and status-based start times. I’d also be happy to jump on a call to learn more about how you're using Timesheets and the workflows you’d like to optimize.

Best,
Kathryn

Hi @Karol Peake ! Thanks for the question — and honestly, you're right, the log-work flow in Jira is tedious. Three dots, menu, dialog, submit… for a 5-minute task, that's a lot of clicking.

Natively, Jira doesn't have quick +5m / +15m buttons. I'm from the ActivityTimeline team, and to be upfront, we don't have one-click increment buttons either. It only starts with 15m and goes to 8h. But we did rework the flow itself, because most people don't log one ticket — they log a day or a week:

  • You log work straight from your workspace by clicking the task — no menus.
  • The hours field is pre-filled based on your capacity, so often you just hit confirm.
  • Frequent tickets can be marked as favorites, so repeated logging takes seconds.
  • And there's a timesheet grid where you fill in the whole week across all your tickets in one view.

So instead of making each log slightly faster, the idea is to log everything in one place, once. Hope this helps!

Hi Daria, our Admin was able to get Tempo Timesheet approved and it doesn't have the ticket quick click functionality that I wanted, but it saves me on the time it was taking to fill out my timesheet at the end of week, as I'm only making one entry on the ticket and it's flowing directly to my timesheet.  Not much I can do but use the tools they approve for us.

With Tempo Timesheet, I *would* still love to have some quickclick buttons and a way to have it default the start time to the time the ticket was changed to in progress, rather then the date/time that the ticket was created.

We did implement Tempo Timesheets and it's not exactly what I wanted but it's helpful.  It is great that I don't have to do a separate timesheet outside of Jira now, I just add the time to each ticket and it auto adds to my timesheet and then at the end of the day I can backfill admin time spent doing non-ticket work.

Hi @Karol Peake

As suggested by everyone a mktplace app can help here. If you are open to try out one  pls take a look at

Worklogs Time Tracking in Jira & Timesheets

With this add-on, you can easily -

  • Enter Time Spent for multiple issues from Time sheet screen. With Calendar view and Board view
  • Create time reports in real time by grouping & categorizing data with aggregation
  • Prepare your reports based on Project/Sprint/Issue Type/Assignees and various other filters
  • Group your data to build more meaningful reports
  • CSV Export
  • Dashboard gadget
  • Add and use custom fields to worklogs (like billable status, work type, cost center, etc.)

Hi,

Double/triple click to add time sounds handy but one misclick logs 5 min you didn't mean to.

We have a free plugin (Timesheets for Jira) with one-click presets (30m, 1h, 2h, 4h, 8h) on the issue. Not the 1m sidebar you asked for, but takes the log-time flow from 5 clicks to 3.

That IS slightly helpful for some of my tickets, but not for my customer service tickets that get 1-15m logged on them.  Is this customizable to set the quick click times?
