Login is super slow

When I access JIRA from a remote IP (it is self-hosted), then the login-screen is shown for a long time - some times 10 minutes. 

Anybody who knows why it is so slow? Or have any suggestions on how to speed it up?

It is only the login-process...

do you use an external LDAP/Crowd for user authentication or your user is an internal one?

As @Fabio Racobaldo _Catworkx_ mentions, your user directory settings is a clue here.

Do you have a user directory where Update group memberships when logging in is set to "Every time the user logs in"? What happens if you set this to never?
