New-ish to Jira but have some experience, trialing out the software at the moment and I'm currently the Org Admin. I've noticed that I can modify the "Category" field on a Business Project, but I cannot within a Software Project. The Category field also shows locked, despite me being the Org Admin (only within the software project).
What really confuses me, is that I can add it to the card view in the Kanban board, but I cannot add it as a column in the list view for the Software project, which is how I was able to add options for the Category field within a Business Project.
Is this a caveat with the Software project type? Is there something I am missing here?

Category field is currently only available in business projects (ex. Jira Work Management).
There's a feature suggestion for the ability to use this field in software projects as well: JRACLOUD-90522: Category field to categorize issues in Jira software projects
You can add that field on the issue layout or board cards but as you cannot configure it (and it's configurable on a project level), there's not much you can do with it when it comes to Jira software projects.
