List of bugs or dashboard of bugs from software project template

Chuck V June 2, 2024

There is much out there on tracking bugs using the bug template, but we are using software project templates, and makes sense in our situation not to have one project template dedicated to just bugs, and another dedicated to releasing software (which also includes bug fixes)

Jira has a nice dashboard of bugs, and would be nice to replicate or have something in that vein.

How do I get a list or dashboard of just bugs that reside in our project using the software project template?

Hi Chuck,

Im new to Jira as well so I may be out of my depth here.

If you want the bugs in your project then can you do the following:

1. Create a new Issue Type (hopefully you are using team managed as you should just need to go to Project settings > Issue Type and add a Bug issue type).

2. Create a new Filter by going to Filters > View all filters and then perform a new serach (set the project to what you need, set the Issue Type to bug and make sure to set the Status to everythign except Done).

3. Save the filter to something like Bug list.

4. Go to Dashboard > create Dashboard  and add the Filter Results gadget.  Make sure to apply the filter that you just created.

Note; The annoying part about this is that the bugs may coe through in other reports that you did not expect.  For example the Bugs will come through in the Kanban board which you may not wnat.  However you can set a custom filter on this if you want (Project settings > Board > Custom filters and apply JQL (that you can get from the filter menu)).

I tested the above on a team managed template.  If your using company managed then obviously still doable but you need to use those global settings i think.

Good luck

Thank you for the advice.

We have inculcated the use of bugs already in the software project template, and can even create a list view, using the filter, such as you have suggested.

I did, however create a dashboard, and that is something I missed.

Where I would like to head is similar to what Jira makes public:

[JSWCLOUD-24025] When a sprint is used on two different boards created on a single project, completing a sprint on one of the boards, does not move all the incomplete issues to the next sprint. - Create and track feature requests for Atlassian products.

Except that I would like to make this available to a select body of persons - who are not part of the organization.   The dashboard gives you options to share, but only within the organization.

I don't know if Atlassian is using a custom software to do this, a third party, or just something that is available out of the box.
