Running Jira DC 7.9
When we create a link from a Jira issue (issue 1) as being dependent on another issue (issue 2), what we expect to see is that the link in issue 2 should read "Depended on by" and issue 1 link text says "Depends on". What we actually see is "Depends On" in both issues so there is no way to actually see or report on which issues are depending on other issues
In past environments I've seen this work correctly. Not sure why it's not working for us now.
This is down to the naming of the links. All the links are simple directional things, they point "from issue A to issue B", but they have simple text for each direction. Exactly as you see A pointing to B, it says "Depended on by" and then when you look at the same link on B, it's described as "Depends on"
My guess is that in your current system, the admins have used "depends on" for both directions in that link type. I would strongly recommend they rename them with your phrases - almost all links are more useful when the direction is known (a generic "is related to" is fine, there's always some that don't need a direction), but dependencies always need a direction!
