Link Epic when creating a new issue

I'm using the next gen for a smaller project of a side team, but when I create an issue, I cannot add a field to select an Epic.

The users have to save the issue and then link the Epic afterwards.

In the "old" gen, it was possible to have or add this field.

Is this a known problem, or am I doing something wrong?

There isn't an Epic Link field on the create screen for next-gen at this stage - see JSWCLOUD-18131 to vote / track this request.

Your options right now are:

Create an issue then on the view screen, select options (3-dots) in top-right and "Add Parent"
Go to the Roadmap view when creating an issue and press the "+" button next to an Epic, creating the issue directly in the parent
Go to the view screen for the Epic and press the "Add a child issue" button at the top of the screen

As we can do in the not "next gen" projects.
