Limit issuetypes in child issues section for an Epic

Pradeep Cheekurthi June 15, 2023

Hi all,

I have Epic, story, Initiative, Bug and task issueTypes In my project.

While creating a child issue from an Epic, I am able to see all the standard issuetypes under child issue section.

Is there any way to remove some issue types (ex: Initiative) from child issue section?

P.s., I need Initiative to be present in my project, only want to remove it from child issue section.

Looking for a solution.

Thanks,

Pradeep

It's 2 items higher in the left menu : Issue type hierarchy

Thank you Frederik,

In our instance, we have placed Initiative in level 1. So that, In roadmaps users are creating Epic issues as a child under Initiative.

Removing the Initiative from Hierarchy will not be a ideal solution for us.

Thanks,

Pradeep

Hi @Pradeep Cheekurthi  ,

To remove the "Initiative" issue type from the child issue section while keeping it available in your project, you can follow these steps:

  • Go to your Jira project settings.
  • Select "Project settings" from the project sidebar.
  • Under the "Issue types" section, click on "Issue type schemes" (or "Screens and issue types" in older versions).
  • Find the issue type scheme associated with your project and click on its name to edit it.
  • In the issue type scheme configuration, locate the Epic issue type and click on the "Edit" link next to it.
  • In the "Issue Type Hierarchy" dialog, you'll see a list of issue types that can be created as child issues of an Epic.
  • Remove the "Initiative" issue type from the list.
  • Save the changes to the issue type scheme.

After completing these steps, when creating a child issue from an Epic, the "Initiative" issue type should no longer be available in the child issue section. However, the "Initiative" issue type will still be present and accessible in your project for other purposes.

Hi @Frederik Vantroys ,

Thanks for the quick response.

I have followed your steps up to Issue Type Scheme configuration, but unable to find out the Edit link option next to Epic.

Is this the correct place I am looking at?

Please suggest.

Thanks,

Pradeep
