Keeping track of progress for cross project issues in Jira Cloud

Neeta July 29, 2021

One large project is split into multiple subprojects when we were initiating project in Jira Cloud.  CyberSecurity items are spread over multiple subprojects . I need to keep track of progress and report to upper management on CyberSecurity storeis . How can I get these items identified cross functional ? Would COMPONENT be defined cross functional OR EPIC be defined cross functional ? What is recommended way to present this ?

Hi @Neeta,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

Components would be one option to do it, just be aware that components are project specific, so you would create it manually in each project that you have. There are apps in the marketplace that allows you to sync components across multiple projects. The way we do it is using a specific issue type for any security issues.

I am looking at OCTO - Component management app . Thank you !

If your stories are indeed across projects then the best way to manage your goal would be to create a single board based on a filter that spans the various projects. You might also consider a dashboard view that captures the various projects. The details of how best to form this depends on the details of how you have your projects configured. For example if these projects only cover issues associated with cyber security then you can include all issues from the each project. However if the projects cover many different areas and you only want the cyber security then I would use components within each project to identify cyber security specific stories then I would use the single board or dashboard to capture each of the cyber security stories from each of the projects.

Hi @Neeta  -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Yes, and...to what Jack and Mikael suggest:

When you make that board spanning across the different projects, please consider treating as "read only", to show the visibility of the cyber security stories.  Then the issue updates will occur with the individual teams' sub-projects.  Otherwise this could surprise/confuse those teams.

Best regards,
Bill

Thank you Jack and Bill . I have more than one components like CyberSecurity , that I need to track across multiple projects. Goal is to have a Dashboard Chart to show what % is left to do for CyberSecurity, for example .

Also Jack, the stories in each project spans over multiple modules . I need to pick a specific ones for the CyberSecurity , for example. So as you recommended , component will be the way to identify them.
