Jira working in Edge but not on the App

ahutchinson April 8, 2024

Exactly what is stated above, when connecting to VPN and using the Jira Cloud app, nothing seems to load and when going to certain tabs(like Projects) I get the error message: “The IP address has been rejected because is it not on the allowedlist. See your admin for more information.”

When accessing from the browser using the same VPN connection, it succeeds, and everything seems to load normally.

If I disconnect the VPN, neither the browser, nor the app works--which is to be expected. Does anyone know what may be going on here? When using the same VPN connection the behavior should be the same whether it be browser or app, yet it isn't.

I figured it out! It was related to per-app VPN configuration on our end for Intune. Check to ensure you are not restricting app usage of the per-app VPN. Once I excepted Jira it worked!

Hi @ahutchinson

It sounds like IP whitelisting has been enabled for your site, which restricts access based on the IP address accessing it. You should check with your Jira Admin to see what is actually set up.

Hi John, yes we do have IP whitelisting enabled. But I am connecting from the same IP address if I use the app, or the browser. That doesn't change. Yet one works and the other does not.

It's probably best to go ahead and submit a support request to Atlassian for that.

Please post back here with the resolution so future readers can see what was needed.

Good luck!
