I am unable to customize Jira form in my workspace
Hi @Sonakshi S Bhowmik— welcome 🙂
If you can’t customize forms, it’s usually something simple. A few quick things to check:
Project type
Forms are available only in:
Jira Service Management
Jira Software
Jira Work Management
Permissions
You need to be a Project Admin to edit or customize forms.
If you’re not an admin, you’ll be able to see forms but not change them.
Where to find Forms
Forms aren’t in the main sidebar. Try:
Open the project
Go to Project settings
Look for Forms on the left
Older projects
If the project was created a long time ago, forms may not be enabled yet. Creating a quick test project is an easy way to check.
If everything above looks right and it still feels limiting, one alternative some teams use is Smart Forms for Jira (developed by my team). It lets you build and customize forms without having to create a custom Jira field for every question or wire everything into field schemes. You only map the fields you actually need for automation — the rest can stay as form responses. Can be reused across all Jira products like JSM JPD, Confluence.
Custom fields in the system can only be adjusted or created by a Jira admin.
Or are you using a Team managed project, but then you still need admin permissions on the project.
