Jira comment lists users in the text field

Christos Basdekis August 18, 2025

Hello,

When create a new comment in a jira global comment (not reply to one) I started to see a list of people at the bottom of the text area. What is this for and how/where can I remove it?

Hi @Christos Basdekis ,

This is actually related to a new feature that Atlassian is currently rolling out.
When you add a comment, Jira now shows you suggested people to tag, making it easier to involve the right users in the discussion.

To my knowledge, it’s not possible to disable this feature at the moment, as it’s part of Atlassian’s ongoing product updates.

You can find this in release note Cloud :  "Suggestions of people to tag in comments" :

Hello @Yoann LEGRAND

Thank you for the reply. it is really unfortunate there is no option to disable it. There was nothing wrong with ""@mention" feature.
To start with the suggestion of people is not accurate as I see people who have nothing to do with that issue, neither will be someone who will need to be tagged ever. I do not know how this list generated but is way off.

Secondly, in my case at least, I tag people in the comment as I type. So using the ""@mention" was in the flow writing a comment. Using this new feature it means I have to stop typing, take my hands off the keyboard, use the mouse pointer to select one of those suggestions, and then back into typing.

The only way it will be useful if is you want to tag a bunch of people at the end of a comment, but still as the suggested list is not accurate I will still have to use the ""@metnion"

You can argue that the ""@mention" feature is still there and I do not have to use the suggestions, but it would be nice to have the choice to remove features you do not want to use or features which do not provide any benefit to your work.

Kind Regards
Christos

Totally agree with you.
This feature feels like something nobody really asked for (at least I imagine so…), and there are so many other suggestions and improvements still waiting aside.
By the way, let’s hope Atlassian gives us an option to disable it in the future ..but I don't think so

Hi,

That list you see is Jira suggesting people already involved in the issue, in case you want to tag them with an ""@mention". It’s a newer feature, which is why you’ve only started noticing it now. It doesn’t notify anyone unless you actually tag them, and there’s no way for you to turn it off—though on Cloud it’s just built in and can’t be removed.

Hello,

Thank you for the reply, as mentioned in the my other reply, in my case at least this list of suggested people is not accurate. The only one that is accurate is usually the person crated the issue in Jira in the first place. Pity it cannot be removed.
