Jira automation fails to run due to a deleted issue

Babu Ganesan May 24, 2025

I have a Jira automation that used to update the "Labels" for all our issues.

We have a situation where we created a issue and deleted that issue - when our scheduled automation executes - it fails with below error

"Action details:
Scheduled

Unexpected error executing rule:
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Could not resolve issue with key: XXXX-XXX"

Why this is so? How we can ignore this?

Hi, If that's deleted within the script - then you may need to get the latest state by RE-fetch issue; that's the component to add when you want to use the values within the automation wherein the those update done within the automation.

Hi @Babu Ganesan

For a question like this, context is important for the community to help.  Please post the following:

  • an image of your complete automation rule in a single image for continuity
  • images of any relevant actions / conditions / branches
  • an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution
  • explain what is not working as expected and why you believe that to be the case

Kind regards,
Bill
