I have the following issue:

We have a new user in Jira who should provide support in a new board. When I try to add the user to the board, the access needs to be approved by our admin.

The problem is: although I am a Jira admin, I get the message
“You can’t grant view access. Ask your Jira administrator for help with access requests.”

As a result, I’m not able to approve or grant access to the new user myself.

Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this or how to resolve it?

Hi @Malte Nielsen  and welcome to the community!

Are you in a Company managed project?

In that case check if you have the Global permission "Share dashboards and filter" by clicking on the cog in the upper right corner and go to System -> Global permissions.

If you are in a Team managed project you should be able to administer the project by your Global permission as a Jira admin.

Let me know if this helps!

Best regards

It seems like an Company managed project. I think I have global permission "Share dashboards and filter" as you can see on the screenshot (german texted).

Do I have to check any other option for approve this new member? Kind of confusing this settings in Jira... :S

Hi @Malte Nielsen

Yes it looks like you are in a Company managed project. There is no specific permission to be able to see a board. As long as you have access to the project you will be able to see the board.

If you click on the three dots next to your project and choose Space settings -> Permissions there is a button in the upper right corner called "Permission helper"

Add the users name and a work item in your board. Verify that the user have "Browse projects" permission. The permission helper will tell you if that is the case or if there is any other reason the user can't access items in your project.

Here are some things that might prevent access

  • The user don't have product access to Jira (needs to be assigned by Org-admin)
  • The user don't have access to your project (depending on how the permission schema is set up browse project might not be a default permission)
  • The board filter has restrictions and is only visible for specific users or groups
  • If you are using Jira Service managment the user might have a customer profile in JSM (normally grey) and a regular user profile in Jira Software (normally a colored avatar). Verify that the correct profile has been added to the project.

Let me know how if this helps!

Best regards,
/Staffan
