Jira Software vs Confluence

Hello Community,

In case of decoupled Jira Software & Confluence server edition migration to cloud, is there a way to identify the Confluence resources used in Jira?

Do you have any advises or materials that i have to pay attention considering Jira will be first candidate to migration? And a way to identify those dependancies in use.

Thanks
Sutha

Hello @Sutha

If you are going to migrate Jira first to the Cloud and keep Confluence as self-hosted for a while, then you will need to use an Application Tunnel to create a link between the two systems. This is similar to how Application Links are used. In this case, an Application Tunnel will be a secure path for Jira, which is out on the internet, to connect to your self-hosted Confluence. If you Confluence system is protected by a firewall, the documentation will guide you through the changes needed to allow just the Jira Cloud traffic through to Confluence.

You could extract from your Jira database information from the remotelink table to get information about the Confluence links that have been created in the Jira issues with the Web Link or Confluence Page link options.

Hello @Trudy Claspill

Thanks a lot for your time and answer. This really helps me to understand and how to interconnect Confluence and Jira running in different hosted env.

Hello @Sutha

When you say Confluence resources used in Jira, I assume you are talking about the linked pages of Confluence within certain Jira projects?

For Jira, you would need to use the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant plugin

For Confluence, you would need to use the Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant plugin

For more information on what gets migrated with Confluence, refer to this page: https://support.atlassian.com/migration/docs/what-migrates-with-the-confluence-cloud-migration-assistant/

Hello @Perisic Nikola

Thank you for your time and shared information.

I am sorry for my limited knowledge product so my unclear question.

Given the fact, for certain period of time, the Confluence continues to be server edition until it will be migrated to Cloud.

For example, If Jira is migrated to cloud and confluence to be server edition for a period of time before it's migrated for various reasons.

In such scenario, once the Jira is moved to cloud, the hyperlinks pointing to Confluence have to be updated and that is documented in the following article:

After a successful server to cloud migration URL links are broken in the new cloud instance | Confluence | Atlassian Documentation - https://confluence.atlassian.com/

The same approach has to be performed at Confluence side if Jira contents are linked. In such case, how that kind of challenge can be identified and eventually tackled in automated fashion?

I would also like to identify the dependancy between these two products and how to identify/enumerate them to take in account in the migration.

Hope this gives more context to my question!

Thank you!
