Jira: Reporter assigned to a group

My team frequently supports project teams during initial project setup. As part of this process, team members are assigned as the reporter by default.

Our goal is to have the reporter set to a group rather than an individual, so it is clear the issue was created during setup while avoiding reporter-related notifications being sent to a specific person.

I can see that some plugins and automation rules already avoid using an individual’s name. However, when we attempt to update the reporter manually, the system does not allow this change.

Is there a way to configure this, or an alternative approach that removes an individual’s name as the reporter during setup activities?

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

The short answer is no. It is not possible to select a User Group in a field that is a User Picker, such as Reporter.

Otherwise the workaround suggested provided by the other responders are the same ones I would suggest.

Adding to @Fatma from VIP_LEAN Solutions's  suggestion to log in with a service account while creating a work item, you have additional options:

You could use import or automation to generate initial work items in new spaces during setup, saving time and avoiding the need to assign a person as the reporter.

Alternatively, a global automation could be used during setup for those projects to automatically change the reporter to a technical user account.

• Trigger: Issue Created.
  
• Condition: Only run if the issue is created in a specific project or by a member of the setup team.
• Action: Edit Issue -> Set Reporter to your "System Setup" technical account.

May be create a new service account ( all members of the group can access this account and get notifications)

In Jira, only one person can be assigned to the work item. Jira cannot recognize who will be assigned to the work item from the group. An alternative is to have sub-tasks being assigned to different users.

this would be the reporter not the assignee.
