Hello,

I'm using Jira Software and Jira Product Discovery in free version. I wanted to show the dependencies for the Jira Product Discovery in the timeline. And found this article: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-work-management/docs/add-view-and-remove-dependencies-between-issues/

But it was showing it for only Jira Software projects. Do you know how I can add a dependency in Jira Product Discovery project?

Thank you,

Hi @Burçe Dağıstan

It's Mary from Planyway timeline for Jira

Adding dependencies in Jira Product Discovery, especially if you're using the free version, may not follow the exact same steps as outlined in the Jira Software documentation because these two products cater to slightly different purposes within the Atlassian ecosystem. Jira Software is more focused on issue tracking and project management for software development teams, while Jira Product Discovery is designed to help product managers prioritize what to build next.

However, Jira Product Discovery is built to integrate well with Jira Software, allowing teams to link discovery work with execution. To manage dependencies in Jira Product Discovery, you would typically use features like linking ideas or feedback to existing Jira Software issues or creating new ones directly from Jira Product Discovery. Here’s a general approach on how you might manage dependencies related to product discovery work:

  1. Linking to Jira Software Issues: If your dependency is related to a task or issue already tracked in Jira Software, you can link your discovery item (like a piece of feedback or an idea) to the existing Jira Software issue. This creates a connection between the discovery phase and the execution phase, helping to track dependencies.

  2. Creating Issues in Jira Software: For dependencies that require new work to be done, you can usually create a Jira Software issue directly from an item in Jira Product Discovery. This allows you to specify the nature of the dependency (e.g., is blocked by, blocks, relates to) when you create the issue in Jira Software.

  3. Custom Fields and Labels: Utilizing custom fields or labels within Jira Product Discovery can also help track dependencies indirectly. For example, you might use labels to indicate related features or dependencies, although this method is more manual and less integrated than linking directly to Jira Software issues.

  4. Visualization and Reporting Tools: Although Jira Product Discovery may not offer a timeline view for dependencies directly within its interface, using integrated reporting and visualization tools (available in the Atlassian Marketplace) could provide alternative ways to visualize and manage dependencies.
