Jira Plans and tracking one Initiative

Dionne Hairsine

I want to create a Plan that only includes one Initiative and the Epics and their Teams under that but I can't see how to do that.  Is it possible or you have to see all Initiatives?

1. Set Up the Initiative & Its Work Items

  • Create the Initiative Create an Initiative as a high-level business deliverable.
  • Assign Epics (Features) to that Initiative — each Epic must be associated with a single Initiative for proper work roll-up and reporting.
  • Assign Teams of Teams to the Initiative to control which Teams contribute to it and its Epics.

2. Filter the Plan View to Show Only That Initiative

Jira Align provides filtering capabilities on Roadmaps and Backlog views:

  • On the Roadmaps page, add a filter for your specific Initiative to visualize only that Initiative's work, regardless of what else is in the backlog.
  • In the Team of Teams backlog view, you can filter to focus on specific Initiatives for a given Quarterly Increment, helping manage visibility and prioritization.
