I have a scenario where I need to be able to pull object types from two different objects into a single field so I can select entries from either when updating the Asset Record. However when trying to add the attribute to an object type, I only seem to have the ability to select one from the list.
I understand you can use AQL on a custom field for incidents but I'm struggling to see if this functionality is available within the Asset Database.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Hi @Phill Berry,
Welcome to Atlassian Community!
You cannot combine objects from different object types into a single field (unless you are bringing in the data to a text field). An assets custom field can only be linked to a single object type. But you can make a second assets field dependent on the selection from the first assets field, similar to a cascading field. Please have a look at this article for more information on how to create filter issue scope.
Thank you Mikael, whilst not where I was aiming for this sounded like the perfect solution, but I'm not working with incidents, this is purely assets.

Same thing applies to Assets, you cannot have an attribute reference multiple object types, you would have to have an attribute for each object type.

The article mentioned suggests you can display fields conditionally based on selection on incidents, however I don't believe you can do this on assets?

Correct, the article I linked to only applies to when you are using assets object fields on a work item, it does not apply to object attributes.

Hello @Phill Berry
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
Can you clarify...?
Are you wanting to access two objects types in an object type field in Issues, or are you trying to access two object types in a single Attribute within another Object?

Hi Trudy,
I'm not working on issues. I have an asset object, and I want to be able to pull the results of two different object types into a single field on that asset object.
Basically we have two different 'Assets' for Clients, in two different business areas. I want to be able to select from either of those lists in a single field on the asset object I am working with.
