How do I adjust the fields in my work items
This page is still under construction
Your Jira Admin has enrolled this site in an early access program to test a new fields functionality. In the future, you’ll be able to view this project’s fields here.
But since this feature is still in early access, this page hasn’t been fully built yet. For now, go to the Field scheme page in Admin settings to view the fields this project uses.
Hi @eneal ,
May we know the application type (software or JSM) and space type (Company manage or Team manage) your using?
Example If your trying to set the visibility and order of fields for your space work types in the work item view, if your using Jira software company manage space, go to space setting - layout then edit work item layout.
Thanks!
Hi @eneal ,
I'm Ash from Appfire.
Managing and adjusting fields in Jira is a fundamental part of keeping your projects organized and your data accurate. In a native Jira Cloud environment, you can typically adjust fields by navigating to your project settings and accessing the "Issue types" or "Fields" sections. For company-managed projects, this often involves updating field configurations and screens to ensure the right information is visible to your team at the right time. If you're looking to perform bulk updates to field values, Jira's native bulk change tool allows you to select multiple issues and modify specific fields in one go, though it does require navigating through a multi-step wizard for each set of changes.
If you find yourself needing to manage these fields more frequently or across a large volume of issues, JXL - Sheets Hierarchy Structure Sum-up may be a great fit for your workflow. Based on the public documentation, JXL provides a spreadsheet-like interface directly within Jira that allows you to view and inline-edit almost any standard or custom field. This means you can adjust field values just as you would in Excel or Google Sheets - by simply double-clicking a cell or using familiar keyboard shortcuts like copy and paste. It’s particularly helpful for Jira Admins who need to clean up data or reorganize fields quickly without the overhead of the native bulk edit wizard. You can also create "merged columns" to consolidate similar fields from different team-managed projects into a single view, making it much easier to manage data at scale.
Additionally, if your field adjustments are part of a larger administrative effort - such as moving configurations between a sandbox and production environment - Configuration Manager for Jira (CMJ) can be a valuable companion. While JXL focuses on the data within the fields, CMJ helps you manage the underlying configuration of those fields. It allows you to capture snapshots of your project settings, analyze the impact of changes before they go live, and deploy those configurations safely across different Jira sites. This ensures that your field adjustments remain consistent and low-risk as your Jira instance grows.
Hope it helps,

Hi @eneal there's multiple locations where fields can be adjusted, exactly which location you'll need depends on what you're trying to do. Here's some links to relevant documentation.
