Hey,

we use confluence and jira. Now i want to have less time on User management and treid to use Active Directory auth with delegation. I filled out the setup form und press test. Test is OK but thats it. No working Auth no delegation. There is also a notice for troubleshooting when i press "test" but there isn't such a "browse directory" option and no Test option as described in the notice that comes up after testing.

i would like to make my life easier and delegate this. AD sync would make things difficult because i would have to make AD Groups, add users to AD groups etc. because only a part of us should use confluence and jira. And yes we have to stay on server version. Cloud is no option because of confidential information.

"Connection test successful.
This only tests that the server is reachable and the credentials supplied are valid. You can perform more extensive testing after saving the configuration, from the 'test' link on the browse directories page."

So i have no clue how to test ...

P.S. same in Confluence.

The way delegated authentication works is when the user supplies username/password credentials, at first LDAP is searched using the proxy user you had to supply in the User Directory setup, then if the user record with this username is found, Jira/Confluence attempts to perform a "bind" using username + password, if this succeeds – the user is considered authenticated.

A user will only be logged in if they are authenticated AND have groups that allows them to use the application.

So depending on what you configured – many things maybe failing.

What exactly are you observing? Have you looked into the Jira Server logs?

Please note that it may be more appropriate to submit this to Atlassian support.
