Jira API access to changed values history

Hi,

I'm trying to acquire the original values for something like this "Story Points" column in Jira using the API:

Is there a way to access these original values directly, or is parsing the changelog necessary to see historical values like this?

I believe you would need to read and parse the issue history for that information.
