JIRA doing something weird and assigning sprints when it shouldn't

There is a user story that is assigned to multiple sprints and it's already completed.   

Is JIRA doing something weird and assigning sprints when it shouldn't?

Whenever a new sprint is created, it  is carried forward. Status remain as "Resolved"

Check that there is a resolution set for the issue.  issues without the resolution field set are not considered done by JIRA and carried over to the subsequent sprints.
