How do I upgrade the database (Aurora or Postgres) when upgrading JIRA data center version?

welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Assuming it was meant that you need to upgrade the database to a compatible version first before a specific Jira upgrade needs to take place.
In that case the standard procedures, like recommended by your database vendor would be needed.

Some people prefer to dump the database and import it to a different host (on a current database version) - in case there would be a different application also connected to the old host which would no accept upgrades.
