I would like to set up automation to update (edit) the sub-task (while getting created) and have "Link to" or "is child of" the Story where I am creating the sub-task.
I did the following but I am getting an error saying "You cannot link an issue to itself."
I tried the other option "Most recently created issue" but it also does not seem like being able to find an issue
Hi Keishi,
What are you trying to Link to?
Hi John
Thanks for picking this up
I am creating sub-tasks from Story, so I am trying to show the relationship between sub-tasks and Story

That happens automatically when you create a sub-task. You would not be able to create one without identifying the parent. If you look at the sub-task you have created, you will see that is is linked to the parent story. I don't think you need this rule at all, unless I am missing something or not understanding what you are trying to do.

I understood that on "Story" issue page, I see the child sub-tasks, so that is what you mean by automatically done and agree.
but what I am trying to do is actually.. outside of JIRA and use confluence and show the JIRA status of issues. I am displaying issues including sub-tasks having the same label, but there is a field that I can use for display which is "Linked issues" and sub-tasks does not have the field value unless you manually set "Linked issue".
so, I thought I can use JIRA automation that when sub tasks gets created from Story, it will add "Linked issues" with the JIRA KEY of story. Should I try use "Edit Issues fields" instead of "Link issues to"?

Sorry, but I am still now following how you are pulling the issues into Confluence. Can you not just use the label field and pull everything with that label?

Yes I can but I would like to see the list in more viewer friendly way with the sub task is related to which parent issue..etc

In confluence (for JIRA issues macro), I am doing the below and I can only find "Parent Link" for the columns to display, however, it is not showing the JIRA key for Story

You are probably going to have to ask Atlassian about why they don't make the Parent field available in Confluence for that.
Please post back here with the resolution so that future readers will know what happened. Good luck!
