JIRA automatically format description when it contains certain characters

Our users are seeing weird formatting problem when insert "********************" b/w a block of text in the description field. The result is pushing the block text all the wya to the right and the block text become a vertical line liek:

...

It seems like *** auto indent the text. Is there another way to disable this feature?

This is not the rendere. I've got JIRA 4.4. and just checked that my description field uses WIKI style renderer, however I can ener the text above without any problems.

Administration -> Issues -> Fields -> Field Configuration -> Description -> Edit Field Rendere

However you can try to change it to plain text and see how it goes

I guess you use the wiki renderer on your description field. If you tun it off you shouldn't expect problems. Check this in your field configuration. Alternatively ask your colleagues to put such text in code brackets
