JIRA Autowatch Plugin for Server ?

I would like to use the Auto-watch plugin fromhttps://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.atlassian.addon.connect.jiraautowatch in my server installation, but it is only available for cloud usage. Can you tell me why?

Atlassian have not yet committed to bringing Connect addon support into the Server version of the software.

Type-2 and Connect addons are very different things, and you can't just translate one type to the other.  The authors of this addon have not (yet) written a server version.

Thanks for the answer Nic, however the user would still like to know 

May I ask what this is (Connect addon support) ? The autowatch plugin's feature set seemed fairly simple, so I don't understand why this plugin needs to talk to another instance / service.

The function set has little to do with it. The vendor has chosen to write the addon as a Connect one. I don't know why. Start at https://developer.atlassian.com/static/connect/docs/latest/index.html for an introduction to connect.
