Why does JIRA keep updating its UI for no reason? Now, when viewing my items in Detail View, I do not have the option to adjust the size of that list to view more of the ticket descriptions. Rather, it just wraps the text and makes one giant block for each item. So, instead of being able to see several tickets at a glance, the user gets to see maybe half and scroll through to find the ticket(s) they are looking for.
Is there any way for me to roll this back or am I missing some personalization feature?

I'm not sure I understand what screen you are viewing. Can you provide a screen image to illustrate the problem?
Are you talking about the Detail View for search results, and the panel on the left listing the issues?
