Issues with closing sprint - issues in done category still seen as open

Mariusz Zalewski November 15, 2021

Good Morning Community!

In newly created Jira projects (Scrum Type) I had 3 statuses for each type of issue:

  1. TO DO
  2. IN PROGRESS
  3. DONE

I had to add Two statuses:

  1. BLOCKED (category 'To do')
  2. CANCELED (category 'Done')

From now on only issues with Canceled status are treated as 'closed' issues. Every 'Done' ticket is treated as 'Open' and is moved to the next sprint after closing the active one which I would like to avoid.

Attaching screenshots for better view.

Any solution for that?

Hello @Mariusz Zalewski

Welcome to the community.

From the screen images you provided, I believe you are working with a Team Managed project.

Jira will consider the issues "completed" only if the status for that issue is mapped to the column farthest to the right side of your board.

Go to the Configure Board option.

Drag all of your "complete" statuses (Done, Canceled) to the right-most column.

Then remove the column that no longer has the Done status mapped to it.

Thank you @Trudy Claspill

I have a board configured this way:

And Jira considers only Canceled statuses as "completed" - the last column as you wrote.

As I understand the only solution for that is to use Jira project "Company-managed" type or use only one status that will be considered as 'complete'.

Hello @Mariusz Zalewski

No, that is not a solution at all. For Company Managed projects also only the issues in the last column are considered complete. You have to map all the statuses that represent "complete" issues to the last column in both Company and Team Managed projects.

In the image you posted, click-and-hold on the "Done" status and drag-and-drop it into the column labeled Canceled, so that Done and Cancelled are in the same column

Then remove the empty column. Hover on the right side of the column header to show the edit button and click on it.

In the two pop-ups that show next click the Delete button in each one.

Hover at the right side of the header for the Canceled column to reveal the edit button. Click on it. And in the pop-up edit the Name of that column to be Done.

Cards in either the Done or Canceled status will be shown in the one column. When you drag cards to that column it will show highlighted areas for each status. Drop the card in the highlighted area for the status to which you want to change it.
