Issue with status change from Backlog to To Do in Active Sprint

Deleted user March 20, 2022

Hi,

I have encountered an issue:

I am unable to change the status from Backlog to ToDo by dragging eg "TESTSCI-11" from Backlog to Test Sprint 1. But it is in ToDo in Active Sprint tab. Does anyone know what's wrong with this? Thank you

Hi

I think you're confusing different parts of the platform - above you have...

  • Workflow: A set of Statuses, of which one is Backlog
  • Scrum Board: A visualisation of your issues - with these components...
    • Board Columns: These are the columns on your active Sprint Board. One is called To Do - but columns can reflect one or more Statuses, and might not be named the same as the Statuses themselves
    • Backlog + Sprints: The backlog, and the sprints, are not linked to Statuses natively

So as an example, if TESTSCI-9 needs to be in a Sprint, and change Status - you might need to...

  • Change the Status on the Issue (or drag it between columns, if not in the same one)
  • Drag it into the future sprint

...as two individual actions

I would recommend...

  • Reviewing how Scrum Boards (and boards in general) work - check-out this help page for more information
  • Review your Workflows - if having Statuses, Columns, and Backlog/Sprints with similar names is confusing
  • Review your Board design, for the same reasons
  • Consider if Automation might be useful for your team - so those two individual actions above could become one. For example, you could have a rule which states...
    • If TESTSCI-9 is added to a future sprint...
    • Then change its status from Backlog > To Do automatically

Let us know if you need any further help with this :)
