Issue with Forge API token

Hi everyone, I am having an issue with using my API token on my Mac computer. When I create an API token and paste it into my terminal, I get this error:
When I did this on my Windows PC it worked so I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I have tried multiple times and know that my credentials are right - maybe its something to do with pasting the API token on a Mac terminal? I am new to Atlassian Forge so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know!
