Issue Returns by itself to the first column after I move it to another column

Osama Al-Areky January 23, 2024

Hello,

Whenever I move an issue from the first column to another, the issue returns by itself to the first column, I don't understand what's the problem, and it is weird because the board was working perfectly, and I never change any thing on it.

Thank you,

Hi @Osama Al-Areky,

There's 2 things I can think of here: there has been a revamp of the board functionality in Jira recently.

Since that was implemented, the drag and drop behaviour has changed a bit, in such that if you don't drop your card in exactly the right box, the status change does not work properly and your issue isn't moved.

Secondly, and a more plausible explanation. Maybe an automation rule was implemented to undo a transition of issues if they don't meet certain criteria. I've come across some cases where people want to implement a check before a transition is allowed. Jira does not support all imaginable validations, causing admins to sometimes implement a sort of undo action instead. To verify if this is happening, open the issue that moved back and look for the automation section on it. If any automation rules have run, you should be able to see the history there and investigate further.

Lastly, while you are looking at your issue, also look at the issue history panel at the bottom of the screen. You should be able to see there if the status of your issue has effectively changed, thus allowing you to zoom in on the potential cause.

Hope this helps!

I tried the drag and drop many times it wasn't the problem. The issue was successfuly traansitioned in the begining but then it returns to the first column in about 2 seconds. There are no validators or anything setup on the board. I disactivated all the automation rules and the problem persisted. Unforunately it remained unexplained problem, i just created a new board and it worked well !!
