Is there such a thing as an Epic template?

My team's Epics always include a small set of tasks (as well as new and exciting tasks unique to each epic). Is there any way to create a generic epic template that automatically includes the repetitive, routine tasks so we don't lose track of them while working on the exciting stuff?

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

There is not a native "template" function, per se. There are a variety of ways that you can create an Epic with a standard set of child tasks.

You could use an Automation Rule that you trigger manually or in some automated way, and in that rule you could create an Epic and child issues under it.

You could use a CSV file with the data for the Epic and its child issues and create the issues by importing the CSV file.

You can also look at third party apps that provide issue templating functionality. Or you can look at apps that provide more robust issue copying functionality. Here are a couple of searches of the Atlassian Marketplace to help you find those apps:

If you're willing to use a third-party application, I can suggest trying our app Elements Copy & Sync that allows you to copy issues with all their content (summary, description, custom fields, comments, attachments, etc.) and their child issues.

If you are willing to use a third-party app and want to use a more flexible tool, you could try our Deep Clone for Jira.

Deep Clone can clone epics (or other issue hierarchies), its child issues, and all its subtasks. Templating is a quite common use case, and my colleague @Marlene Kegel - codefortynine even wrote a community article for this use case some time ago.

As Trudy mentioned, there is no native option to create templates for issues. If you're open to use an app, I can recommend our Issue Templates Agent for Jira. It works on the native Create issue screen. You can create a simple template or the whole structure, so Epic with set of Tasks / Stories as well as Subtasks. But this template is used when you create the issue manually.

If you want to schedule issue creation, we have another solution: Issue Scheduler for Jira. With this app, you can also create a template for simple issue or the whole structure, but what's more - you can define when issues from these templates will be created.
