I user Jira cloud Standard Plan and it does not support Parent link issue type. Can someone tell me if there is an alternative way to set up a hierarchy in Jira where I can link the epic to a parent issue type?
Jira Standard does not natively support extending the issue hierarchy in a way that functionality will recognize a parent/child relationship between an Epic and another issue type where the Epic is considered the child.
You could create a generic Link relationship to link an Epic to another issue type with that generic Link relationship indicating a parent/child relationship, but Jira won't do anything special when issues are linked like that.
Alternately you can
- upgrade to Jira Premium where the Advanced Roadmaps feature supports extending the issue hierarchy
- consider using a third party app from the Marketplace to extend the issue hierarchy
There are several third party apps available. I have not used any of them, so I don't have a recommendation on which you should use.
You can find them in the Marketplace by searching for "roadmaps" and/or "hierarchy". For example:
https://altassian.marketplace.com/search?hosting=cloud&product=jira&query=hierarchy
Thank you!
