Is there a way to take a board I've created in a 'free' versions of jira in to my company version?

Hello @Kieron Meyrick

Welcome to the community.

Are you working with a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? It will say which at the bottom of the navigation pane on the left.

Also, just to be clear, there is a difference between migrating issue data and migrating an agile board.

In Jira you create a Project. Issues are created within the Project. The agile board is just a way to visualize and manipulate the issues. It references the issue data, but the board is not the "container" for the issues. Rather, the Project is the container for the issues.

It is possible to import issue data into a Jira instance and if the issues are in a Company Managed project or migrating to a Company Managed project then it is possible to include the links between issues and Epics as part of that process. It is not possible to migrate the "board". The setups for the board configuration would have to be recreated.

Hi Trudie,

thanks for the answer, the 'free' site is a team managed project and the company version is also in a team managed project, does this mean it is not possible?

thanks Kieron

For a Team Managed project you can import issue data but you cannot automatically link the Epics and their child issues during the import. That would have to be done manually after the import is completed. You also would need to create the project in the destination instance first, and do all the configuration for the board manually before importing the data.

There are alternative process for migrating a project from one cloud instance to another. I have never actually tried to do that, but here is the document that is the starting point. I'm not sure if that would include the board for a Team Managed project.
